Toni Maticevski’s expansion from WAG dresser to a possess version of Alexander McQueen is complete.
The Melbourne-born engineer kicked off a new-look resort wear Fashion Week Australia on Sunday with a vast scale uncover sponsored by Mercedes-Benz. Not a star studded front row, including Lindy Klim – former mother of Olympic swimming champion Michael – with a new partner in tow, nor the low pockets of a German automotive play could shroud a tender talent of a Macedonian-Australian designer.
Renowned internationally for eschewing blurb trends and channelling his creativity into voluminous looks that sell for thousands of dollars, his review 2017 collection was a depart from final season’s romantic, multiplying frocks.

There is now a darker mood about Maticevski. The billowing dresses are still there though in shades of three-day old cream, onyx and a blue of cartoon tears. The looks were some-more calm – literally – with models in sky-high, pencil-thin heels teetering on a discriminating marble runway with their hands shackled behind their behind by crystal Ryan Storer handcuffs and gagged by balls imitative smaller versions of those seen on Adelaide’s Rundle Street Mall.
His trademark full skirted silhouette was in full moody of fancy, this time with additional extras including antique brocade tails, leather and zips. Two square suits and skirts were form wise nonetheless propitious with ropes of fabric here and sexy cut outs there, all telling a story, identical to that of Fifty Shades of Grey except more expertly executed.
Like McQueen’s work, Maticevski’s conform evokes tension and this time it was one of pain, indulgence and edginess. The soundtrack coincidentally included songs by dual of today’s many worried masculine stars – Justin Bieber and former One Direction black sheep Zayn Malik.

The usually spirit of density was around a new paint – a buttery yellow that was displayed on cigarette trousers, pencil skirts and an innovative shape that resembled a patio over a bust. A demeanour not seen given a late, full-bosomed model Anne Nicole Smith was seen in justice fighting a estate of her oil aristocrat father in a early 21st century.
